Andhra Pradesh Government has created an independent autonomous Andhra Pradesb Livestock Development Agency to achieve the production of milk and the related products to meet the ever-growing demand, by adopting artificial insemination of local nondescript cows and buffaloes with local pure breed animals and imported exotic semen.

APLDA maintains FSBSS of such exotic variety of cows and buffaloes and pure breed of Indian cows to collect, process and preserve semen. Such semen are distributed through distribution centers (at district/ mandal level) to artificial insemination centers (including mobile centers) and Gopalamitras (private artificial insemination practitioners) who are located at village level. The entire farmer population is covered through such institutions at village level. In an effort to streamline this mammoth activity and maintain information about the progress of this Artificial Insemination (AI) programme, APLDA has decided to go in for computerization upto district level.

Description of Actual Services Provided by our staff

The scope of the work includes

• Formulating a suitable IT-Strategy for the agency
• Development of an integrated software for intra-departmental processes - Development of Software in three-tier client server architecture using dial-up connection and APSWAN to access server at APLDA Head Office. Computerize Inventory Management of Frozen Semen (FS) doses at each Artificial Insemination (AI) Center for Breeding of local cows with high producing exotic semen and upgrading non-descriptive buffaloes with murrah semen through AI and utilization of FS doses.
• Information from AI centers sent to district head quarters in around 4-5 formats, which is updated into the system. This information is monitored by APLDA Head Office to generate MIS reports which assists the management to assess the success of a programme, bottlenecks, issues and make necessary changes to achieve the required goals.
• Data Entry of records of 35 lakh farmers.
